How to pick up girls on the dance floor

Nightclubs are a great place to meet girls, but unless you know what to do, the dance floor might seem like the hardest place to talk to and get to know someone. So what do you do?

First, it helps if you know how to dance - even if just a bit. Take a few dance lessons, particularly in hip hop - or anything that gets you moving. Second, realise that it IS possible to talk on a dance floor even when the music's playing - and that dance floors are actually really social places. Third, be confident - know you can dance, know you can have a conversation with people and approach everything you do with a positive mindset.

Once you're on the dance floor, here are some steps to help:

1. As you dance, gradually move closer to the girl you're interested in or the group of girls if she's with her friends. Sometimes you may be in luck and it might be the girl who's noticed you and she's already dancing nearby.

2. Make eye contact but keep dancing. Don't stare at her. It's also your initial opportunity to determine whether she may be mutually interested in you.

3. Dance closer to her, lean towards her and say something - anything appropriate such as about the song. Also try to tell her your name.

4. Try to talk directly into her ear so you're audible but don't yell. Talk more about generic topics like dancing, the song or what she's drinking - to help as an "ice breaker" and for continuing your conversation later. Deeper conversations are then best left to off the dance floor.

Watch her body language. If she seems dismissive or moves away, don't pursue her - she's probably not interested. And yes, being "rejected" is one of the things every guy will experience - no matter how "popular" or "good looking" they are. If she seems interested - great - dance with her for a while, and try to extend getting to know her off the dance floor where it's quieter.
