Planet Nightclub - Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

This venue has now closed.

Planet Nightclub has the best lights and sounds, plush interior and spectacular outdoor deck equipped with its own DJ podium and day beds. You will see, hear and feel the difference with a talented resident line up ready to take you to the dance floor and beyond. Planet's unique spaces are perfect for parties and functions for 50-500 people.

Planet Nightclub has been a long desired musical dream for Andrew McKenzie & Wayne Wakefield. Music has been an important part of both their lives from a young age. After attending the Big Day Out many years ago Wayne was introduced to dance music for the first time in a festival atmosphere and coming from a rock and roll background soon discovered he could not ignore the unique clean sound of computer generated, mixed music.

Years of clubbing in the Valley followed where, at the time was the only place for those who sought out the yet to be commercialized dance music scene. The scene and the music was infectious and Andrew and Wayne started collecting vinyl records and polishing their spinning technique whilst learning the industry for future aspirations of becoming DJ'S to play their music to the people. Unable to secure permanent sets and unwilling to wait out the normal long and arduous road of aspiring DJ's they used their business savvy and risk taking personalities to create the day club Boom which was founded back in 2002 @ the Suncorp Building cnr of Wickham & Brunswick street. The club was built on a modest budget from the saving of Andrew and Wayne, its opening weekend following the Easter of 2002. The concept of starting as a day club was a combination of the fact that they both had careers and heavy commitments and music was initially only a vested hobby for the boys, understanding the industry would take many years before the next step of a nightclub would be both personally and financially viable.

Spending no money on advertising and themselves standing on the corner, street marketing the first night outside Family nightclub, they returned to the club after only an hour on the street discovering the club at almost capacity the first night, a truly encouraging success and vision of things to come for both Wayne & Andrew.

Boom had quality DJ's consisting of DJ's Jason, Karma & Edwin heading the line up, Wahoo!, NV, & Andy Mac as supports. The club was a roaring success until ventilation problems forced Booms relocation to 27 Warner Street after a small hiatus to secure the new premise, taking Boom to a new level and planting seeds for a bigger and better club to be born.

Capacity at Boom doubled and fast became an even bigger success obtaining credibility with Qld #1 Baby Gee as resident, alongside Valley veteran Karma, both residents also of Family nightclub.

Boom was a springboard for the careers of DJ Syke and DJ Tydi now current Family residents, Tydi currently sits as #4 Australian DJ.

Boom's success was cut short by the introduction of the 3am lockdown but gave birth to solid plans for the creation of what has become Planet. Boom closed its doors in October 2006 after 4yrs of solid success and so began the first construction of Planet, yet again built on a modest budget and dreams (and mortgaging of there homes) Planet swung its doors open for the first time in March 2007 offering House/Electro as its main genre, Karma Wahoo!, NV Danny Boy and most recently the very successful and talented Matt Kitshon make up the residency with guest such as Murray Brown guest DJing on occasions. With a state of the art EAW Sound System and lighting rig and a few features never seen before on the Valley club scene, the club has a unique atmosphere and arguably one of the best DJ consoles to host our DJ's

The Planet promises to never let you down, with awesome beats and friendly staff from front door to dance floor. Enjoy the ultimate dance experience at Planet, your Planet, Universe, Earth, World, Australia, Queensland, Brisbane, The Valley.
